About Us
A.W.C.H. is a small charity, covering the whole of
Wales and based in Swansea. We are purely volunteer run and have
no offices. AWCH was founded in 1962 by a group of parents
and professionals concerned with lack of parental access to
children in hospital. As a result of our work and that of
Action for Sick Children, hospitals have open
visiting, and children's wards are generally bright and
cheerful.
With our sister organisations in England and Scotland, we are
members of the European Association for Children in
Hospital, monitoring health standards for children
throughout Europe.
Today AWCH continues it's work to promote the welfare
of sick children in hospital, community and home by:
- liaising with health care professionals and the Welsh
Assembly
- acting in a consultative capacity in the forward planning of
health services for children in Wales
- promoting play and teaching in hospital
- donating hospital gifts
- speaking at meetings of voluntary and other groups
