Most hospitals now employ someone to look after children’s play needs. These are mostly NNEB’s, increasing numbers of whom take the National Association of Hospital Play Specialists course. Trained play-leaders play a vital role within the team looking after the child, striving to make the hospital experience as non-traumatising as possible.

AWCH also has two play ambulances which are available on loan to primary schools. These, together with equipment, uniforms and books help children familiarise themselves through role-play to a hospital environment.
