Travel & Emergency Fund

This small fund, provided by AWCH, is able to give limited help to families who cannot afford to visit their child while in hospital, or take them to a hospital appointment. The fund is accessed through some hospital social work departments, or referral to AWCH by another professional.

Increasing centralisation of children’s services means that they have further to travel for treatment, sometimes into centres in England, and consequently their families have further to travel to visit.

In conjunction with Contact a Family Wales, AWCH is continually campaigning to help these families. Representatives from both organisations are having joint meetings with the Children's Commissioner in Wales office to discuss 'The Rights of the Child' in respect of this issue.
